Can I shingle over the roof I already have?

It depends on how many layers are on there now. We have done roofs when the homeowner told me the previous owner said there were only 2 layers up there, and when we got there, he had 4! You are only allowed to shingle over 1 layer of roofing. Even though this is permitted, we HIGHLY recommend not doing this. If you do this, you will not know if there is rot underneath the existing layer or if there are any other problems underneath it. It is better to address any problems that you find when you rip off the old roof than to fix them when the problem gets worse. It will cost you more in the end.
